Lauren Spear’s Pick

March’s full moon is also known as the “Worm Moon.” Unlike other horror movies I’ve recommended with worm-like creatures (Tremors, Night of the Creeps, etc.), the Big Bad in Squirm is…worms. Just a whole lotta actual wormy worms. There’s a lightning storm that downs some powerlines and that extra electrical surge into the ground gets the local worms riled up. You know how worms usually wait until we’re dead/buried to start munching on our bodies? Well, these worms decide they don’t need to wait that long and start going after the townsfolk while they’re still alive. Is Squirm a GOOD movie? That’s debatable! Is it a FUN movie? Absolutely. It’s played completely straight, but it’s such a ridiculous premise that it can’t help but be funny. It’s a wonderful film to watch with friends. It’s oddly charming. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can even try recreating the “egg cream” drink the protagonist orders (it’s not on the menu, but he gives the poor waitress full instructions on how to make it). I mean, it doesn’t taste very good, in my opinion, but that’s what my family did for MY first viewing of Squirm and it was FUN. Grab some gummy worms and celebrate Squirm‘s 50th year of existence! Rated PG | Runtime 1h 32m

Frank Spear’s Pick

Frank Spear says: “The Housemaid is my favorite horror movie of 2025! It’s a mystery-horror that follows a woman with a troubled past who takes a job as a live-in housemaid, only to find out things with the family are not as perfect as they seem. I don’t want to say much more than that in terms of the plot, because The Housemaid is best experienced if you go in cold. I will say that it’s full of nail-biting ‘OH NO, DON’T DO THAT!’ moments, clever twists and turns, engaging characters, and is, hands-down, one of the best psychological thrillers I’ve ever seen.” Rated R | Runtime 2h 11m

Christi Bandy’s Pick

Christi Bandy says: “I’m picking Scream VI! I rewatched it to get ready to see Scream 7 and remembered just how GREAT it is.” Rated R | Runtime 2h 2m
Where to Watch Scream VI (2023):
Isaiah Swanson’s Pick

Isaiah Swanson says: “When a family goes deep into the woods to renovate a rundown cabin into an Airbnb, they discover a squatter inside who dabbles in the occult and warns of a deadly presence in the house . . . it’s Gwendy the Giant Snake! Practical FX snake puppet for the win. Check out Gwendy hissin’ her way through Snake Creek and Snake Manor as well! Thank you Charlie Steeds!” Rated TV-MA | Runtime 1h 21m
Where to Watch One Big Snake (2025):
AJ Spencer’s Pick

AJ Spencer says: “I know this is heavier on the sci-fi and action than on horror, but I really gotta go with Predator: Badlands this month. It just hit streaming and it’s so good. I recommend it for the sharps visuals and superb acting!” Rated PG-13 | Runtime 1h 47m
Where to Watch Predator: Badlands (2025):
Robert Tharp’s Pick

Robert Tharp says: “I thought Death of a Unicorn was really unique. It’s better too not know too much about the plot… But it has a huge cast of despicable characters who meet their ends in over-the-top ways. Made me laugh. Neat monster, too.” Rated R | Runtime 1h 47m

Note: Lauren’s mom doesn’t write articles for HorrorFam.com, but she’s an important cheerleader behind-the-scenes and wanted to contribute to this page!

Mom chose Invaders from Mars (1953) because “I was thinking about March… March… Mar… Marrrrrs… Invaders from Mars! The original one. That was such a scary movie! It’s kind of like Invasion of the Body Snatchers except the main character is just a poor little boy. His parents are replaced and so are other adults in the town and no one believes him and there’s no one safe to turn to. It’s so scary!! And I like the aliens in this one, too. The way they look. It played on TV or at our local theater or something when I was in 3rd grade and all my classmates were talking about it and pretending it was real and I hadn’t seen it yet and I was so confused. They kept telling me to watch out for marks on the backs of people’s necks and to avoid holes in the ground. AHH! I finally saw it a few years later and was like, ‘Ohhhhh!’ Anyway, my pick is Invaders from Mars. It’s really good!” Not Rated | Runtime 1h 18m
Where to Watch Invaders from Mars (1953):
Adam Page’s Pick

Adam Page says: “The Void is a creepy and wild ride that gives you cosmic horror with lots of gore. We’re trapped in a hospital, which is never good, and it only gets worse. We get robed cultists, monstrous transformations and a sense of dread that never leaves. The practical effects are fantastic and will make your skin crawl. It’s a love letter to the 80’s horror movies but with a freaky, nightmarish twist. If you like gruesome visuals and mind-bending terror, check it out!” Not Rated | Runtime 1h 30m
