Christi Bandy Best 2025 Horror Movies

Christi Bandy’s Top 10 Favorite 2025 Horror Movies

A LOT of horror movies came out this year (over 1,700 according to IMDB), and that’s likely not even ALL of them! So, it’s no small surprise that I didn’t see every single horror film released in 2025, but I tried my best to watch as many horror releases as humanly possible. I love going to the movie theater as much as I can, and I unapologetically subscribe to every possible streaming service.

Here are the top 10 BEST 2025 horror movies, that I saw and LOVED this year:

10. Final Destination: Bloodlines

I am a rabid fan of the Final Destination films. The hilarious deaths, the litany of well-known actors (including baby-faced Devon Sawa, who was there when it began), and the Tony Todd of it all. I was not disappointed in this years-later sequel. Who doesn’t love lore? The tattoo shop scene alone had my heart, and the MRI kill definitely wasn’t too shabby. And if you didn’t cry during that scene, are you even a horror fan?

9. Heart Eyes

It’s a little-known fact about me that my second favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day. Yes, you can love decapitations and be romantic (it’s kind of my thing!). Heart Eyes is a solid combination of romance and horror. It gave us a cool killer (I am still swooning over the mask), some creative kills, a sweet story, and lots of laughs. Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt hit every note, keeping the balance between horror and romance so it blends seamlessly. Heart Eyes’ ending is decidedly weird, and I am here for it.

8. Weapons

What can I say about this film that hasn’t been said? This movie, given to us by director Zach Cregger — who helmed one of my favorite movies of this decade, Barbarian — decided to get really wild with Weapons. This film is completely unhinged and has some of the best meme-inspiring scenes and characters I’ve seen in years. Props to Amy Madigan for her unrecognizable turn as the wacky Aunt Gladys, a character so fun that she’s getting her own film.

7. Frankenstein

Guillermo Del Toro Frankenstein 2025 streaming

What can’t Guillermo Del Toro do? The answer is absolutely nothing. The man is a genius, and I couldn’t love him more. Well, after The Shape of Water (speaking of romance) I thought I couldn’t love him more, but then I saw Frankenstein. Excuse me while I sigh dramatically with my hands clutched to my chest, because this movie is perfect. I am a Frankenstein fangirl and have long been obsessed with Mary Shelley and her gothic romance. Del Toro put his own spin on it and gave the Creature new life (ahem). It’s gorgeous, epic, heartbreaking, and brilliant.

6. Companion

Companion is just CUTE! You have Jack Quaid, who plays the most adorable jerk on the planet; Sophie Thatcher, who is almost too perfect; Harvey Guillen… I mean – come on! And the absolutely insanely fun Lukas Gage, who I think is amazing (did you catch him in Smile 2, and “Dead Boy Detectives?”). When AI girlfriend Iris is ‘jailbroken,’ things go downhill quickly and, in this film, all women can become autonomous, even those that aren’t really ‘real.’

5. Bring Her Back

Bring Her Back streaming now

I couldn’t wait to see what the Philippou brothers had in store for us after Talk to Me, which is one of my favorite films of all time. Bring Her Back is just as surprising, but it has an even darker tone. A thoughtful meditation on grief and how it impacts human emotions, Bring Her Back is absolutely heart-wrenching. With child death as the centerpiece, this movie goes to places the human mind shouldn’t go and, even as a seasoned gorehound, I will say I was cringing pretty firmly during the countertop scene (practically done, and very well!)

4. The Conjuring: Last Rites

The Conjuring Last Rites 2025

There is something so lovable and sweet about Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal-researchers-in-love Ed and Lorraine Warren. You can practically feel their chemistry leap off the screen. Their saga comes to an end with this movie, which is rooted in the personal story of their last case and how close it hits to home when their daughter becomes involved in a haunting. The credits had me teary-eyed. I’ll miss these two! The Conjuring: Last Rites is a great bookend to the franchise.

3. I Know What You Did Last Summer

i know what you did last summer 2025 streaming

Yeah, I know, it’s a legacy sequel; but hey, I’m a sucker for fan service. I didn’t want to like this movie, and I went into it with very low expectations. However, it was way more fun than I thought it would be to go back to Southport, especially with Ray and Julie. The twist was a bit predictable, but I was living for the quick cameo by you-know-who! (I gasped aloud in the theater). 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer is a solid love letter to the original series and a fun popcorn flick I had a blast watching.

2. V/H/S Halloween

VHS Halloween 2025

The V/H/S series has no right to be as good as it is. V/H/S Halloween is the eighth installment of the beloved anthology series that showcases multiple directors in related segments (with a wraparound story that ties it all together). Every installment has a theme, and I was particularly excited for Halloween to come out. I was not disappointed. Filmed in found-footage style, the movie has a retro vibe and some hilarious shorts, including “Fun Size,” which made me laugh out loud; “Kidprint,” which is honestly horrifying; and the eerie “Ut Supra Sic Infra.” Every film is good, and it makes for a really fun Halloween viewing experience.

1. Sinners

Sinners 2025 must see horror

It’s predictable, I know, but Ryan Coogler has given us a beautiful movie, and Sinners definitely earns its spot as my favorite 2025 horror film! I said most of how I felt about this film in my original review but, honestly, even upon two rewatches, it just gets better and better. There’s a lot going on in this movie, but films like Sinners are what I think of when people talk about “the magic of film.” Sinners is pure MAGIC. It’s horror, romance, history, characters you love and care about, clever dialogue, and so much heart. I can’t wait to see what Coogler does next.

Honorable Mention: The Creep Tapes

The Creep Tapes streaming

It’s not a movie, but Patrick Brice & Mark Duplass’ follow-up streaming series to their Creep movies, The Creep Tapes, is hysterical, creative, zany, and the most fun horror TV show I’ve seen this year. If you loved the Creep films, you’ll have a blast watching this Shudder-exclusive series that I am pretty sure they’re having just as much fun making.

What were YOUR favorite 2025 horror movies?

I was in AGONY trying to narrow my end-of-the-year list down to a mere Top 10! There were so many great 2025 horror movies to choose from, but I’m feeling pretty confident about my final choices for the year. I tried to choose the best of the best horror films that really stood out, and brought something unique.

There were wonderful original horror films, shiny new additions to well-loved franchises, well-crafted legacy sequels, and fresh spins on classic stories. 2025 was a great year in terms of variety – there was something for every type of horror fan!

But what were YOUR favorite 2025 horror movies? Are my faves your faves, or do you have a recommendation for something I need to add to my Watch List before we head into 2026? Let me know!
