I get a ton of emails about exciting upcoming horror projects and, while I’m unable to showcase them all individually, I’m absolutely thrilled to share them ROUND-UP STYLE! So, without further ado, here are the new & upcoming horror creations from the HorrorFam.com inbox!
None of the creators below have paid to be featured here — because we believe that lacking a marketing budget shouldn’t equate to a lack of eyes on your project. That said, I haven’t I had the chance to experience every creation personally. I do my best to make sure each entry is horror-related and take it in good faith that each creator has represented themselves and their projects honestly.

Midgies
![Midgies Scottish indie horror movie - HorrorFam.com Midgies Scottish indie horror movie](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Midgies-Scottish-indie-horror-movie.png)
Glasgow-based director Alessio Avezzano along with Fort William-based author Barry Hutchison (of the JD Kirk series) has gone into full production on their newest horror comedy, Midgies.
However, they’re still actively seeking funding to make this the absolute best film they possibly can. It looks REALLY cool and you should definitely check out their proof-of-concept trailer!
According to Alessio, “What began as a light-hearted social media post has evolved into a fully-fledged film project. Our 3-minute trailer was produced on a micro-budget, with the help of a talented crew and local studios, including Motif (Mad Max Fury Road) and Blazing Griffin (Anna and the Apocalypse), who’ve come on board to support the project.”
He continued, describing Midgies‘ plot as “A mother and her teenage daughter’s road trip through the Scottish Highlands takes a deadly turn when they encounter a swarm of mutant midges. The film blends Scotland’s quick-witted humour with classic monster horror tropes for a universally entertaining experience.”
He even offered a video explaining what midges are, for those who’re unfamiliar. 🙂
Longtime fans of HorrorFam.com already know that comedy is my favorite horror subgenre and that I have an interest in bugs, so I’m really looking forward to seeing this finished! If you’re interested in funding the production of Midgies, contact Alessio Avezzano via email at [email protected]

Actor/Producer Jonas Thomasson contacted me to announce that their “no budget B-movie slasher” Don’t Make a Sound is coming to VOD/DVD from SRS Cinema on February 11, 2025! (That’s next week, but they’re accepting pre-orders now, if you’re interested).
Don’t Make a Sound is the story of a young woman and her 10-year-old sister travelling cross-country to stay with relatives when — uh-oh! — their car breaks down in the woods and they become prey for a deranged hunter/killer who loves to film his victims.
From JT Kris, the director of I Think We’re Alone Now and Ghosts of Amityville, starring Junie Liv Thomasson and Scream actress Nancy Anne Ridder as Aunt Carrie, you can check out the trailer for Don’t Make a Sound on YouTube.

The Mahal Empire (brothers Sonny & Michael Mahal) are back with another indie horror film! This time, they’ve made a horror-fantasy action movie called Devil’s Knight.
The plot of Devil’s Knight was described as “An elite group of global monster hunters is summoned by King Samuel to vanquish the ancient Bone Devil, whose reign of terror threatens the Kingdom of Remény.”
Devil’s Knight is now streaming on Tubi! And you can watch the trailer for it on YouTube.
Scurry
![SCURRY - HorrorFam.com Scurry movie](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/SCURRY.png)
Ooooooh!! We’ve got an upcoming (literally) underground horror movie! I don’t have a ton of information on this one (yet), but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out. Here’s what I’ve got so far:
Scurry, directed by Luke Sparke, “follows two strangers, trapped underground during an attack on a city by a monstrous threat, who must navigate through a tunnel in hopes of finding an exit.”
It played at festivals towards the very end of 2024 and won a few awards! It was filmed in Queensland, Australia and is a “real-time”/one-take creature feature horror film! Unfortunately, I wasn’t told an exact release date; however, I was told to keep an eye for it to come out SOON!!!
Side Note: While I was poking around trying to find out more information about Scurry beyond the email I was sent, I saw that Luke Sparke has also adapted Ethan Pettus’ sci-fi horror novel Primitive War about a Green Beret platoon in 1968 Vietnam encountering dinosaurs in an isolated part of the jungle. And that film’s also supposed to be out later this year!
Chateau
![Chateau horror movie streaming now - HorrorFam.com Chateau horror movie streaming now](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Chateau-horror-movie-streaming-now.png)
Starring Cathy Marks (American Horror Story, Scream Queens), Chateau is a found footage horror movie that’s now streaming on Plex!
Plot synopsis via Film Mode Entertainment: “During a vacation in France, an aspiring influencer stumbles upon a sinister chateau with a dark past. Desperate for followers, she sneaks onto the property determined to stream every moment, but soon her experiment spirals into a chilling nightmare. Unseen forces awaken, her every move is watched, every breath counted, and some visitors don’t intend to let her leave.”
Psychopomp
![Psychopomp_DanielLizzieAttic - HorrorFam.com Shawnee Smith Psychopomp horror movie](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Psychopomp_DanielLizzieAttic.jpg)
“Psychopomp was born from a nightmare. On my honeymoon, I dreamed of caring for a child, even as it literally tore my new family apart,” said director Paul Etheredge. “Firstly, though, Psychopomp is a horror movie: thrilling, scary, grotesque, fun, and funny.”
No release date has been announced yet (other than “soon!”), but you can check out first-look footage of Psychopomp on YouTube.
Plot synopsis: “Psychopomp follows a couple, Robin and Daniel – long struggling with infertility – as they realize their dreams of parenthood by welcoming an orphan, Kathelia, into their home. However, those dreams crack under the weight of Kathelia’s erratic behavior, which only becomes more frighting when Robin discovers she’s inexplicably pregnant”
Also, it stars Shawnee Smith from The Blob (1988) and the Saw franchise!
Phil Herman’s Unearthed
![Phil Herman Unearthed indie horror anthology - HorrorFam.com Phil Herman Unearthed indie horror anthology](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Phil-Herman-Unearthed-indie-horror-anthology.png)
Fans of the Izzy’s Eerie Indies column will recognize Phil Herman from Isaiah Swanson’s review of I Slay on Christmas! Well, Phil Herman is back with a new horror anthology: Phil Herman’s Unearthed.
If you contributed to the IndieGoGo campaign for Unearthed, your DVD or Bluray has been shipped as of last week. If not, you’ll be able to watch Phil Herman’s Unearthed online sometime soon. In the meantime, you can buy it on VHS(!) or watch the trailer on YouTube.
The Arkansas Pigman Massacre
![IMG_6716 - HorrorFam.com The Arkansas Pigman Massacre 2025](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/IMG_6716.jpeg)
In this period piece slasher set in 2004, two tween girls and their older brother are on a camping trip in the woods when they encounter the Pigman… and things get much worse from there.
I was told that The Arkansas Pigman Massacre is “a micro budget B-horror movie” and that it’s coming SOON! (I was also told that the bulk of the budget went to Eric Roberts for his scene in the film!).
They released the official Red Band trailer for The Arkansas Pigman Massacre on my birthday, so be sure to check that while you’re waiting for the movie to show up on streaming platforms. It’s been acquired by Bayview Entertainment and should be streaming later this year.
Once Upon a Time in the Future: 2121
![2121 Turkish dystopian horror movie - HorrorFam.com 2121 Turkish dystopian horror movie](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/2121-Turkish-dystopian-horror-movie.png)
Once Upon a Time in the Future: 2121 made its theatrical debut at Cinelounge in Los Angeles on January 31, 2025 and will be in select theaters in San Francisco, Boston, and Austin later year. 2121 will also be having a digital release on VOD platforms on February 11, 2025!
This film is significant for being the first female-directed feature-length sci-fi horror film to come out of Turkey and it’s also Turkey’s first sustainable film production.
Once Upon a Time in the Future: 2121 has made its way to the United States thanks to EuroObscura, an independent international sales agency focused on delivering high quality European horror & science fiction films worldwide. They’ve described the plot thusly:
“In the not-too-distant future of the year 2121, the earth has become uninhabitable due to climate crises and famine. The few survivors have formed colonies and started to live in underground blocks. According to ‘The Scarcity Laws’ of the hilariously zealous and dictatorial Young Administration that controls this complex and highly regulated system, old generations must be destroyed in exchange for new lives to keep the status quo of the population and their meager food stores in control. The life of a family that lives in one of the blocks is suddenly changed by the imminent arrival of a new baby they are expecting. On the surface a seemingly bleak tale that is surprisingly funny at times with a hopeful nod to the resilience of humankind.”
Shiver Me Timbers
![Shiver Me Timbers Popeye horror movie 2025 - HorrorFam.com Shiver Me Timbers Popeye horror movie 2025](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Shiver-Me-Timbers-Popeye-horror-movie-2025.jpg)
Popeye has entered the Public Domain and you know what THAT means…!
Shiver Me Timbers has Popeye “going from Sailor Man to Slayer Man.” Due to hit streaming in April 2025, you can catch the official trailer for Shiver Me Timbers on YouTube as of yesterday.
100 Candles Game: The Last Possession
![1CAGAME OFFICIAL ART - HORIZONTAL 1920x1080 - HorrorFam.com](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/1CAGAME-OFFICIAL-ART-HORIZONTAL-1920x1080-1.jpg)
Influencers getting themselves into trouble in haunted houses seems to be becoming a rapidly-growing subgenre of horror! In 100 Candles Game: The Last Possession, online influencers summon the Black Countess while filming a ritual at her mansion. Obviously, that doesn’t go well for them… But just how terrifyingly wrong does it go?!
To my understanding, that’s just the wrap-around story! I was told that 100 Candles Game: The Last Possession has the following segments:
- “Arcana” directed by Jeronimo Rocha
- “The Fortune Teller” directed by David Ferino
- “Five Minutes” directed by Maximilian Niemann
- “Let Her Go” directed by Arie Socorro
- “Behind The Door” directed by “Andres Borghi”
- “Black Moon” directed by Ryan Graff
If you’re interested in this horror anthology film, you can catch 100 Candles Game: The Last Possession on Apple TV! You can also watch the trailer on YouTube.
Spring 2025 Indie Horror Short Films
Posies
R.H. Stavis & Katherine Fisher‘s critically-acclaimed short film “Posies” (2022) is now available for ALL to watch and enjoy! (I’ve embedded the full-length short above, so you can watch it right here, if you like!).
“When we sourced Posies from NFFTY, we knew it embodied the kind of boundary-pushing storytelling that ALTER is known for championing,” said Sophie Carroll, Director of Creative at Gunpowder & Sky’s ALTER and DUST. “Rachel’s powerful narrative combined with Chappell Roan’s hauntingly beautiful score creates a masterclass in atmosphere and emotion. With Rachel [Stavis] now developing feature films and television projects and Chappell rising as a household name, Posies perfectly illustrates why ALTER is dedicated to discovering and nurturing the next generation of horror innovators.”
With an original score by Chappell Roan (currently her only film score), Posies is a short horror film following one woman’s body horror nightmare as she questions how her (and society’s) past decisions have effected her present self. It also features some simple-yet-effective practical effects that’ll probably make you cringe at least a lil!
Detox
After a successful festival run, award-winning indie filmmakers Alex Hanno & Wes Hopper‘s horror-comedy short film Detox is now available online for us ALL to watch! (I’ve embedded it above for you to enjoy right here!).
It’s only 8 minutes and 48 seconds long and I really enjoyed it. I don’t want to say too much! It’s both tense and funny, the effects are great, and not a second is wasted of its short runtime. Also, I really like the main character’s nebula/galaxy phone case both due to personal nostalgia (I had a similar one a few years ago, and I loved it) and because of -SPOILERS- the foreshadowing. 😉
Spring 2025 Indie Horror Books
Darkness Calls
![Joe Chianakas Darkness Falls horror book - HorrorFam.com Joe Chianakas Darkness Calls novel](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Joe-Chianakas-Darkness-Falls-horror-book.png)
I’m going to copy/paste the email I got for this one directly, because I think it sums up this entry perfectly:
“When author Joe Chianakas lost his mother to cancer, he turned to the one thing that had always connected them — horror.
From childhood, his mother nurtured his love for the genre, letting him watch 80s slashers and devour Stephen King novels. As an adult, their bond deepened through weekly horror movie nights. After her passing, Chianakas found himself drawn back to horror — not just for entertainment, but for understanding.
‘Horror entertains,’ Chianakas explains, ‘but it also helps us process life’s real terrors—death, grief, the loss of loved ones, and the search for meaning.‘
These themes form the heart of his upcoming novel, Darkness Calls (March 4, 2025), a gripping ‘monster in the woods’ tale that blends horror, mystery, and art. Inspired by childhood adventures near Springdale Cemetery in Illinois, the novel follows a teacher and his students as they uncover forgotten childhood secrets — and the terrifying truth that monsters are real.
But Darkness Calls is more than just a horror novel — it’s a deeply personal story about loss, resilience, and the power of embracing what makes us different.
… At its core, Darkness Calls is a story about outsiders—characters who feel invisible or out of place in the world. Their differences, however, become their greatest strength in the fight against the darkness.
‘As much as I love horror, I love the symbolism behind it even more,’ says Chianakas. ‘I want this book to speak to anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong.’”
TL;DR = Keep an eye out for Darkness Calls by Joe Chianakas on March 4, 2025!
The Horror Movie Night Cookbook
![Richard Sargent Horror Movie Night Cookbook - HorrorFam.com Richard Sargent Horror Movie Night Cookbook](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Richard-Sargent-Horror-Movie-Night-Cookbook.png)
The Horror Movie Night Cookbook comes from writer Richard Sargent, who described it like this:
“I pair horror movies with a dish that is either featured in or inspired by the film itself. These aren’t cookies shaped like ghosts. These are thoughtful recipes developed by studying the films themselves. Each dish also comes with a drink and drinking game.”
He also suggested that it’s a great cookbook to have when Spooky Season rolls around, as the food & drink recipes along with the drinking games are a ton of fun at horror-themed and/or Halloween parties! You can buy The Horror Movie Night Cookbook on Amazon.
Horror Movie Report
![Stephen Follows Horror Movie Report - HorrorFam.com Stephen Follows Horror Movie Report](https://horrorfam.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Stephen-Follows-Horror-Movie-Report.png)
Stephen Follows, a film industry analyst and expert for Guinness World Records on data-led movie records, has released The Horror Movie Report 2.0!
The Horror Movie Report 2.0 is Stephen’s updated analysis of all 27,000+ horror films EVER made (as of October 2024), looking into the production, industrial, and cultural aspects of the horror genre.
Stephen generously offered up a few stats from the Report to share here:
- We’re currently in a boom for horror, with recent years seeing an annual output of over 1,500 horror films, far exceeding historical production levels such as the 1980s peak of 275 films per year. Not only that but horror has an increasing market share of all films made, now accounting for one in eight movies produced, up from one in thirty in the 1960s.
- Since the 1930s, 73% of all horror films have been produced in the United States. This dominance has remained consistent across decades, with no other country surpassing this share. The data shows that the U.S. has maintained its leading position in horror production despite the globalization of the film industry.
- The author whose works have been most frequently adapted into horror films is Edgar Allan Poe, followed by H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, and Bram Stoker. The most adapted book into horror films is The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, followed by Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe.
- Clown-based horror films were rare before the 1960s but peaked in the 2010s, making up 1% of all horror films during that decade and remaining high today.
- Sexual content in horror films has declined by 40% since 2000. This contrasts with other types of objectionable content, such as violence, swearing, and drug use, which have not seen similar declines.
- There is almost no link between the filmmakers’ prior experience and horror film profitability. Data shows that the profitability of horror films is largely unaffected by whether they have a first-time writer, producer, or director. These factors do not significantly influence the financial success of the film.
- Horror film profitability depends on audience approval, not critical reception. Unlike other genres, where critical reception often correlates with profitability, horror films show no such connection. Instead, profitability in horror strongly correlates with IMDb user scores, indicating that pleasing the audience is key to financial success, while critics’ opinions are largely irrelevant.
Isn’t that FASCINATING?! I was absolutely enthralled! I love stuff like this – especially when it pertains to my special interest – and thought it was extremely cool.
The Horror Movie Report 2.0 is JAM-PACKED with horror movie information & statistics that’s interesting for fans and invaluable for filmmakers. (There are two versions, depending on how hardcore you wanna be about learning the math behind the magic AKA if you’re looking for fun fan facts versus the nitty-gritty business side of the horror genre).

Spring 2025 Indie Horror Music
“Creepshow” Music Video
Horror-themed heavy metal band Creepshow would love it if you could watch their new music video for their song “Creepshow” (ft. Ghoul).
My metalhead husband loved this one! He said that it’s “very different” and noted that it has elements of Cradle of Filth, Metallica-influenced riffs, essence of DragonForce, moments of surfer rock, and an overall modern alternative metal vibe.
